It’s been a bit of an odd season for Crystal Palace so far, and our resident Eagles fans here in the Transfer Tavern aren’t too sure which way it’s going to go, making them uneasy.
The Selhurst Park club started the season poorly before signing the likes of Christian Benteke to propel them on a nice run to the top half of the table.
That, though, is where the wheels fell off as West Ham strolled into town and grabbed all three points with ten men.
Palace had chances to win that game, too, but that has gone on to become another losing streak.
We don’t know what it is at Palace, here in the Transfer Tavern, that sees them go on long runs of good form followed by bad form but they’ll need to snap out of it quickly.
Our landlord reckons the squad needs some work to help matters and thinks getting rid of these THREE would be the ideal start…
Jordon Mutch
Mutch had a lot of promise coming through as a midfielder, but he hasn’t really hit those heights and it might be best if he tried to rediscover that talent elsewhere.
He’s a decent passer of the ball and will mix it up in a midfield battle, but he’s not going to be getting near Palace’s central areas any time soon.
He’d be a good signing for a Championship club, though, and that is what he should be looking at.
Julian Speroni
Speroni is somewhat of a club hero and rightly regarded as a fan favourite but it’s time for him to leave the playing staff now.
With Steve Mandanda and Wayne Hennessey in front of him in the pecking order he’s got some serious work to do to even get in the side and, to be frank, he’s not good enough to do that anymore.
It’s time for a farewell, then.
Connor Wickham
Wickham just isn’t cut out for the Premier League.
He shows very brief flashes of what he can do but he is too inconsistent to do it at this very highest of levels and Alan Pardew must realise that.
The striker has talent, make no mistake, but he’d be better off in the Championship where he may even become a real force.
It’s not happening at Palace though.
