Chelsea aren’t in a good position, and you can bet that Maurizio Sarri is feeling the pressure. The Italian hasn’t been able to have the desired impact in the Premier League so far, and if he doesn’t turn it around, his tenure is only going to end one way.
Indeed, Chelsea are currently a far cry away from the form that Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli team showed under the Italian, and barring a miracle, they’re not going to get to that level anytime soon.
At any other team that may not be the end of the world, but at Chelsea, it certainly is; and that’s why Jamie Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, thinks that he may well get sacked this season.
As per Sky Sports’ official website, he said: “We are not speaking about Arsenal and Unai Emery, who are on the same points as Chelsea. Chelsea are in a cup final too. We are speaking about Sarri because it is Chelsea and what they have done in the past. I would like to see them stick with Sarri, but unfortunately, we know that these next set of fixtures, because it is Chelsea, will be crucial.”
He later added: “As soon as Chelsea’s hierarchy feel they could miss out on the top four, that is when they will feel they can make a change.”
Certainly, the Chelsea board have shown a lot of things over the last few years – but patience certainly isn’t one of them. If things aren’t going well, managers often haven’t been given the time to sort things out – and that won’t change under Sarri.
Whether that’s right or wrong is up for debate, but one thing that is certain is that Sarri is facing a race against time. If he doesn’t sort things out immediately, this will only end one way.
There are many important games on the horizon, and Sarri cannot afford to put a foot wrong. If he does, the Italian and Jamie Carragher will both know what will be coming.
