The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern were extremely disappointed by their side’s performance against Arsenal at The Emirates Stadium last Saturday.
Teams managed by Sam Allardyce are renowned for being defensively solid, but Everton’s performance against Arsenal last weekend did nothing to emphasise that point. Everton were humbled by a rampant Arsenal side who were buoyed by the impact of their new signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Allardyce focussed on bolstering his attacking options in January as he brought Theo Walcott and Cenk Tosun to the club in big-money transfers, although he did add Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala to his squad in a deadline day loan deal.
Mangala has endured a tough time since his move to City in 2014, but Allardyce opted to throw him straight into first-team action by starting him against Arsenal. However, Everton’s manager was very much made to rue that decision.
Both Managala’s and Everton’s defensive frailties were highlighted during their 5-1 defeat against The Gunners, and the result left the supporters wondering why they didn’t add further defensive talent to their ranks in January.
However, that could be set to change very shortly, as Sky Sports claim they are interested in bringing Patrice Evra to the club on a free transfer, although they face strong competition from West Ham for his signature.
The supporters are eager to see a new left-back arrive at the club to replace Cuco Martina, but it seems that Evra is far from an ideal replacement judging by the reaction on Twitter.
And despite Evra’s rich history in European football, it is easy to sympathise with the views of the Everton supporters considering the French full-back is 36-years-old.
Here’s what the Everton supporters said about the potential of signing Evra on a free transfer…

We had all transfer window to sign a left back and claimed we couldn’t find one, but now that West Ham United want Patrice Evra, we do too. It’s bizarre. What does Steve Walsh actually do at the club? What’s his purpose? I haven’t seen anything to say that he should keep his job.

How Walsh still has a job is a farce in itself

Embarrassing, but he’s still better than Martina and Mangala

Patrice Evra? Do me favour! If it's a left back you need @Everton there's one who plays for @TheDabbers called Courtney Wildin who I'd give a shot before another mercenary has been. Come to think of it can I have Steve Walsh job please?

Over 6 months to search and target a LB and we come up with a 50 year old Evra !!! Never change Everton.
