The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern have been responding to their former midfielder, Lewis Cook, as he came off the bench for England to play the last 20 minutes against Italy in yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Wembley. The substitute appearance gave young Cook his first cap at senior level for England after representing the Three Lions at youth level.
Lewis Cook left Eland Road for the Vitality Stadium in the summer of 2016 and is enjoying his second season on the South Coast, having become a regular feature for Bournemouth in the current campaign, making 23 Premier League appearances for the Cherries. The 21-year-old gained a number of suitors during his time at Leeds before being snatched up by Eddie Howe and the Leeds fans propping our bar up are feeling both proud and bitter as he played his first minutes in the Three Lions shirt.
Leeds could certainly do with someone of Cook’s ability now, as the club have suffered a shocking run of form in 2018, winning only one game since the turn of the year. The Whites’ current form is that of a side doomed for relegation and after such a promising start to the campaign, the fans will be left wondering what could’ve been as they languish in 14th with the Play-Off places out of sight for the Elland Road faithful.
