It’s not been an enjoyable night for the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern, who watched their season take another sour turn as Southampton knocked them out of the EFL Cup at the semi-final stage.
With the Premier League title looking a touch out of reach right now too, the notion of seeing Jurgen Klopp deliver some silverware to Anfield is looking like an increasingly unlikely one this season. Though there’s so much that went wrong last night, the main source of frustration amongst our drinkers was the performance of Daniel Sturridge.
Little the England international did last night came off in the slightest, missing a glorious chance to take the lead from just a few yards out and the 27-year-old looks far from the fearsome forward who almost won the Reds the league title, along with Luis Suarez.
In fact, having seemingly lost a yard of pace as a result of his injuries, many Kopites are comparing him to the closing stages of Fernando Torres’ time on Merseyside.
My wife just said Sturridge reminds her of Torres jest before he left after his injury he was never the same lost pace and confidence #LFC

Daniel Sturridge looks like Torres in 2011. Lost a yard of pace, low on confidence and unsuited to the system. #LFC

Am I watching Daniel Sturridge or Torres at Chelsea in disguise? #lfc

Ever wanted to know what would have happened to Torres if he stayed when Chelsea came calling.
The answer is Sturridge.
