As Juventus look to bring back the good old days to Turin, several Premiership clubs are on red alert and fearing big money moves for their stars, after the Juventus board promised manager Luigi Delneri all the financial backing he needs to help the club, ahem, rejuvenate..!
The Old Lady are already looking to make Liverpool’s Alberto Aquilani a permanent acquisition, as the midfielder continues to impress during his loan spell with the club, and Delneri has now turned his attention to Arsenal’s Andrei Arshavin to add some extra attacking flair.
The Italian giants were rivals for the Russian’s signature before he eventually joined Arsenal in 2009, and now look to be back in the hunt and lining up an audacious bid to lure the midfielder away from the Emirates.
Juve are thought to be willing to go as high as £18m to get their man; however, it is also highly unlikely at present that Arsene Wenger will allow Arshavin to leave. And even if the player wants out, the Arsenal boss won’t let him go just like that.
Just ask Cesc Fabregas.
That’s not to say that £18m wouldn’t buy a suitable replacement for Arshavin, but with Arsenal having no financial constraints and still very much in the running for the Premiership and Champions League, there would seem to be little to no reason at all for the Gunners to sell, nor for Arshavin to leave.
Nevertheless, Juventus would not make any approach until the summer, and a lot can change in six months…
