Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are enjoying life under Pep Guardiola this season, as the Spaniard’s footballing philosophy finally appears to be bearing fruit at the Etihad Stadium.

The Sky Blues are currently flying high in the Premier League and playing an exciting brand of possession football.

Pep Guardiola has taken some time to adjust the squad to his preferred playing style; and the Citizens top the stat charts for possession (60%) and pass accuracy (85%) which is indicative of how the manager wants the team to play.

The landlord believes that the current squad of stars are still more than capable of winning trophies but the club is evolving, and some players simply don’t fit in with Pep’s philosophy, meaning change is inevitable.

The Man City boss will need to address expiring contracts, ageing stars and misfiring forwards in the summer, but who will stay and who will go?

Claudio Bravo’s first season at Man City has been a disaster littered with mistakes and inconsistency between the sticks.

With Joe Hart unlikely to return to the first team after he was sent packing to Torino earlier in the season – a new goal keeper is surely on the cards.

KEEP: PABLO ZABALETA

All of Man City’s full backs are over the age of 30 and are all likely to be replaced in the summer, however here at the Tavern we think the Argentine should be retained.

Zabaleta is a leader and a real warrior on the pitch.

With changes to the backline inevitable, Guardiola should look to retain the full back at all costs providing continuity at the back.

AXE: YAYA TOURE

The African midfielder turns 34 this year and his ability to influence matches has declined with age.

Yaya Toure is simply too pedestrian for Pep’s approach to playing football.

Toure has recently been playing in a deeper role within the team and performed well, but with a disruptive attitude and his best years firmly behind him it really is time for the Ivorian to move on.
