The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are always on the look-out for the next big star at Anfield. More often than not, that comes in the form a major signing, but every so often, a homegrown talent is able to squeeze through the cracks and break the glass ceiling.
A handful of players have done just that over the years, and whilst Steven Gerrard remains the most significant example, the strength of the Liverpool academy does suggest that there is scope for another graduate sooner, rather than later.
One player that certainly has a chance of doing just that is young Rhian Brewster, at least according to the Liverpool Echo.
Brewster, of course, rose to prominence for his performances at the under-17 World Cup, where alongside some of England’s brightest young talents, he stood out as the most talented of the bunch – ending the tournament with the Golden Boot award.
He’s yet to make a full debut for the Liverpool first team, but Jurgen Klopp clearly isn’t concerned with his lack of experience. His natural finishing and flair is enough to impress most in the pub, and it appears as though the Liverpool manager is of the same opinion.
It’s certainly an exciting time to be a Liverpool supporter.
Landlord’s Verdict
Brewster isn’t the finished article, that much is clear. He’s not yet proven on the grand stages, and even at points during the u-17 World Cup, the forward showed his deficiencies.
However, he clearly has bags of natural talent, and Jurgen Klopp could be the perfect manager to bring the best out of him.
Liverpool aren’t blessed with much offensive depth, and so he could certainly get a chance, particularly during pre-season. If he impresses in the summer, then a season in the first team could beckon.
