If the last weekend of Premier League action taught us anything about Liverpool it’s that they need to be active in the January window.

What happened at Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon was an absolute farce when you consider they are meant to be going for the title as our resident Reds looked on in disbelief at our TVs here in the Transfer Tavern.

The Anfield club somehow threw away a 3-1 win over Bournemouth to lose 4-3 in the last minute with their defence coming in for plenty of criticism as well as Loris Karius taking a fair bit of the blame.

And whilst Jurgen Klopp seemed fairly magnanimous in defeat, inside he must have been thinking that the team needs serious additions.

It’s come to our landlord’s attention, then, that the German will have already asked John W. Henry for significant investment in January and he thinks that Klopp needs to ensure these two requests are followed up on…

 New left back

James Milner has done a good job but he isn’t a left back and the Reds should seriously try to get a top one in.

Even if the Englishman does stay as a left sided defender from now on he can’t be relied upon to be the only one good enough but that is the state of play at the moment with Alberto Moreno the only back up. The Reds, then, need to add some serious depth in this area if they are going to compete for the title this season.

 New centre back

Whilst Joel Matip looks like a top defender Dejan Lovren’s performance without him suggests that his spot could be up for grabs.

With Mamadou Sakho seemingly out of the question and Ragnar Klavan not apparently deemed good enough to play ahead of Lucas Leiva the Reds could do with another calming presence alongside Matip. Do that, and their title challenge looks far more reputable.
