With the possibility of further departures from Merseyside before tomorrow night’s deadline, including Bryan Oviedo and Darren Gibson both potentially securing a switch to Sunderland, the punters in the bar reckon another pair of signings would be a good move.

They state that they don’t necessarily have to be big-names or ground-breaking deals but their words have caught the attention of our landlord, who believes further signings for Everton could see them challenge the continental spots in the second-half of the season.

Although Jose Mourinho wants to keep the veteran winger at Manchester United, the Portuguese boss admitted after yesterday’s FA Cup victory over Wigan Athletic that Ashley Young could be on his way out before the window slams shut.

Everton are amongst the sides said to be interested in the England international and there is a space free in their squad following Gerard Deulofeu’s loan move to AC Milan. With a wealth of experience, Young would certainly be a good addition to the squad.

Caio Emerson

The young man may not be a name that you’re familiar with but that could change in the coming years, with a host of top-clubs interested in the Brazilian youngster.

Ronald Koeman’s side are one party keen on a move and reports suggest a deal could be close.

Just 17, Emerson is rated as one of the finest young players in South America and a move to Europe beckons.

If Everton can seal a deal tomorrow, they’ll land a player with huge potential and great sell-on value.

It would be a major coup but Koeman could convince the Brazilian that first-team football is a option for him if he performs, with Everton handing a wealth of opportunities to young players this season.
