The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are thrilled with their club’s start in this season’s Premier League.

New signing, Wayne Rooney completed his dream return to the club by scoring the only goal against Stoke City which sets them up nicely for Monday’s trip to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City.

Alongside Rooney, a statement has been made by the club in the form of more major summer transfer activity with the likes of Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Jordan Pickford and Sandro Ramirez all coming through the gates at Goodison Park

However, our landlord doesn’t believe that this should mean that the Toffees will have a successful season and there is no doubt that they will be looking to put in a similar display against the Citizens, which saw them win 4-0 against Pep Guardiola’s side last time the two sides faced off.

This has sparked up a discussion in the Tavern which has been geared towards which players should be given a chance against City on Monday.

Our landlord has listened in on the discussion and he has a shortlist of the two players who the Toffee fans really want to see strut their stuff under the Monday night lights of the Etihad.

Mason Holgate

Although Dominic Calvert-Lewin did a wonderful job at right wing back on the opening day of the season, the Everton fans in the Tavern want to see a more defensive minded player in Holgate line up against a City side that oozes attacking quality.

Holgate has done very well since filling in for Seamus Coleman at the back end of last season, and our landlord feels the youngster is more than up to the task if called upon by Ronald Koeman on Monday.

Muhamed Besic

With Everton looking to qualify for the Europa League in mid-week, our landlord has suggested that the fresh legs of Besic should be employed against a strong and creative Manchester City midfield.

The Bosnian has struggled with injury since joining the Toffees but the Everton fans would really welcome him proving his worth with a strong performance if called upon at the Etihad on Monday.
