After a 5-0 drubbing at Stamford Bridge, Ronald Koeman will be as keen as anyone to get his Everton side back to winning ways.
The Toffees host a Swansea City side who were also comfortably beaten by Manchester United in their last game and have only managed one point in Bob Bradley’s four games in charge.
The American has had a full two weeks to drill his side and will have no doubt focused on getting them disciplined defensively against the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Yannick Bolasie.
There is a chance therefore that Saturday’s game could be a tight affair and Everton may have to rely on hose outside the starting eleven to make an impact.
That means the clever use of substitutions by Koeman to swing the tide of the game and potentially grab a goal in the dying embers.
Here are two impact subs we here in the Transfer Tavern think can do that job for the Dutchman…..
GERARD DEULOFEU
A number of Everton fans at the Tavern still remember Deulofeu fondly from his time under Roberto Martinez, but he seems to be struggling to win over Ronald Koeman.
Tactical changes and the signing of Yannick Bolasie has limited the 22-year-old to just three starts this term as he has found himself in and out of the side.
The Spaniard is brilliant on the ball and has the ability to produce a moment of magic – whether it’s a mazy run, clever finish or pinpoint cross to Lukaku – and would be a great option should the Swansea game need bringing to life.
KIERAN DOWELL
With Arouna Kone struggling to get fit and Enner Valencia looking like he wouldn’t be able to finish his dinner, Everton will really struggle for goals if Romelu Lukaku has an off day.
Perhaps Koeman should look to his youngsters, with exciting midfielder Kieran Dowell top of the list.
The 20-year-old has followed up a great season with the under-21s by hitting five goals in nine appearances for the development squad this term.
Instead of bringing on a striker, introducing Dowell for one of the more defensive Idrissa Gueye or Gareth Barry could give him the goals he seeks.
