Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager to see their transfer business get underway now the summer transfer window is officially open.
While no new signings have been made, there has been a major staff overhaul at Goodison Park. Sam Allardyce was relieved of his duties following a dismal season and was replaced with former Watford boss, Marco Silva. Director of football, Steve Walsh, also lost his job with Everton appointing ex-PSV Eindhoven man, Marcel Brands, as his replacement.
Brands was clear that Everton would have to sell in order to buy this summer and is looking to trim the size of their squad. Following the disaster of last summer’s window, our regulars are hoping for an improvement. With Yannick Bolasie failing to impress, a new left winger will be a priority.
It is understood Brands left the Dutch club on good terms, and there is no clause in his contract that would prevent him from raiding his former side. The Toffees have been linked with Hirving Lozano, but following his impressive performances during the World Cup, competition for his signature will be fierce. Instead, Everton should make a move for PSV winger – Steven Bergwijn.
Valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, the 20-year-old has gone from strength-to-strength after breaking through the youth ranks at Ajax. He enjoyed a terrific campaign in the Eredivisie despite his tender age. The youngster netted eight goals and notched 11 assists in the league as PSV lifted the title.
Blessed with lightning-quick pace, Bergwijn is the exciting attacking player that Everton have been crying out for. His best years are ahead of him, and Silva is the right man to get the best out of him.
Everton fans, thoughts?
