Leeds handed setback in trying to land Karl Darlow

Leeds United are thought to be keen on adding a goalkeeper to their ranks in the January transfer window.

The Whites have been heavily linked with a move for Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow as they look to add depth to their squad.

However, Marcelo Bielsa may have been handed a huge transfer blow in trying to add the goalkeeper to his ranks.

Lee Ryder, who is the Newcastle Chronicle’s Chief Newcastle United writer, has revealed that Rafa Benitez has no plans to let the 28-year-old leave.

The Spaniard revealed that the only shot-stopper that he has made available in the winter for a possible transfer is Rob Elliot.

Darlow is currently Newcastle’s second choice at the moment behind Martin Dubravka and his chances of first-team football look slim.

The Verdict:

Benitez’s comments about Darlow not being available will be a huge transfer blow for Bielsa and Leeds.

The Whites need to provide Bailey Peacock-Farrell with some competition and cover and the 28-year-old would have been a quality addition with proven Championship experience.

However, it appears the Elland Road outfit will now need to look at other alternatives in January as they look to bolster their squad to try and win promotion back to the Premier League.
