Leeds United fans playing pool in The Transfer Tavern are not overly concerned following reports that the club are not interested in signing a former striker.
The Yorkshire Evening Post has reported news that Leeds United manager Steve Evans has not had contact with former striker Luciano Becchio, and at present he does not intend to make contact unless it’s for coffee.
Rumours earlier in the week suggested that Becchio was set for a return to Elland Road, but Evans has been quick to dispel those rumours.
Becchio was a popular character with the Leeds fans during his time at Elland Road, and was part of the squad that gained promotion from League One to the Championship before leaving the club to join Norwich City following in the footsteps of Jonny Howson, Robert Snodgrass and Bradley Johnson to Norfolk.
Speaking to The Yorkshire Evening Post about Becchio, Evans said:
“I’ve had no contact with Luciano so the rumours about him are news to me.”
“I had a great relationship with him at Rotherham and he’s a terrific lad but I’ve not spoken to him for about 12 months now. If he’s in Leeds, whatever the reason, I’d be very happy to catch up with him for a coffee, but only for a coffee.”
“He was very good for us at Rotherham but it took us six or seven weeks to get him properly match fit in the first place. After that he started to look like the player we knew he was. With where we are at just now, we’re looking at players who can come in and make a difference immediately.”
The Leeds fans in The Transfer Tavern are in full agreement with their manager that there are better options than Becchio available and are looking forward to see who Evans has in mind.
