The Leeds United fans in The Transfer Tavern are absolutely livid at reports that their owner has decided to go back on his word and not sell the club.
The Bradford Telegraph & Argus have received news that owner Massimo Cellino has decided against selling his 75% stake to a fans group.
The controversial Italian has had a disastrous tenure in charge at Elland Road, with the fans turning on the owner during last weeks home defeat to Blackburn Rovers, Cellino decided the time was right to sell.
But according to the perspective buyers Leeds Fans United the Italian wants to stay put and sell to someone else.
The group issued a statement following a conversation with Cellino’s lawyers which read:
“Leeds Fans Utd has just been informed by the lawyers of Massimo Cellino that he no longer wishes to sell to Leeds fans. Our insistence on him confirming his verbal offer of exclusivity in a legally binding agreement has forced transparency on his motives.”
“It is much better that we identify this insincerity now before we spend our shareholder’s money. This exercise has proved our capacity to adapt to any acquisition scenario very quickly.”
“We now know we have the capacity to do both a minority and majority deal, and it has shown that Leeds fans have a desire for fan ownership. We hope that Massimo will treat the club and fans with respect and honour.”
For the Leeds fans in The Transfer Tavern this is disappointing news, and they are now left wondering when Cellino will sell the club and who too.
