Rangers: Leon Balogun comes off injured for Nigeria

Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will be sweating after Leon Balogun came off injured during Nigeria’s 4-4 draw with Sierra Leone on Friday.

Balogun worry

The 32-year-old was selected to start the match, and the clash looked all but won as Nigeria led 4-1 with 30 minutes left on the clock.

However, in the 65th minute, the former Brighton man was forced off, and that appeared to rock his country. They conceded three late goals to draw 4-4, throwing away an important three points during the qualification process for the African Cup of Nations.

Gerrard’s bad luck continues

Gerrard continues to have no luck with his central defenders this season. Balogun himself has missed a number of games with several issues, while Nikola Katic has not played a minute after picking up a serious injury during pre-season training. Filip Helander has also had his own problems – only Connor Goldson has come away unscathed so far.

Since coming in on a free transfer during the summer, Balogun has been impressive when he has played. In fact, the 54-time Scottish champions have not conceded a single goal with him in the side so far this season. Previously called a “fantastic” player by Jurgen Klopp, Gerrard will be hoping that this latest set-back is not serious.

In other news, Rangers fans surprisingly hail this Scotland star.
