The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for another attacking signing in January. Alvaro Morata has made a sensational impact this season after being recruited from Real Madrid, but with Michy Batshuayi struggling, the Blues still need more depth.
Antonio Conte can’t be expected to rely on Alvaro Morata and a misfiring Michy Batshuayi all season long, and so the Blues brass will ideally bring someone in in January. One name that has left the fans in the pub drooling into their pint glasses is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Blues have been linked with a move for the Gabon forward by the Mirror, with the publication noting that the club have been offered the chance to sign him.
He would, of course, be a fantastic signing, but with Alvaro Morata already in the side and both players unlikely to be happy with a role on the bench, Antonio Conte would have to accommodate them both if he is to sign the Borussia Dortmund man. As a result, his formation could require a bit of changing, and his choices in the attack will be slightly different to what has been typical under the Italian.
With that said, could this be Chelsea’s potential new-look attack if they were to sign 31-goal target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?
LW – Eden Hazard
Eden Hazard is the man of the moment in the Chelsea first team.
He was unstoppable against Liverpool over the weekend, and he has really come of age under Antonio Conte this season.
The Belgian is one of the best players in the Premier League, and Chelsea are very lucky to have him.
Offering electric pace and technical brilliance, there is nobody better for this position.
ST – Alvaro Morata
Alvaro Morata has had a great start to the season, and he would only get better when playing alongside a player of Aubameyang’s quality.
The Spaniard provides so much quality on the ball, and he’s proven his quality in front of goal this season too.
He would no doubt be more than comfortable playing as a duo rather than upfront on his own, with his fantastic passing likely to help them link up fantastically.
ST – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
There is no doubting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s quality. The Gabon forward is undoubtedly one of the best players currently playing in Europe, with a remarkable 31 league goals last season.
His electric pace and direct running will contrast fantastically with Alvaro Morata, who is more of a technical master than his potential new attacking partner.
With so many goals between them already this season, his addition would be deadly.
RW – Willian
Willian’s first team role has been limited this season, but this change in formation could demand his involvement.
In contrast to Pedro, the Brazilian is an incredibly hard worker. He never stops running, providing an endless amount of support for the defensive players behind him.
With Chelsea losing a midfielder due to the addition of a new forward in this line-up, Willian’s role would be key. He would need to track back and almost serve as a third midfielder when required.
That could give the Blues the balance required.
