‘Let’s sign him up’ – Liverpool fans on Twitter demand club bring World Cup winger to Anfield

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern will be keeping an eye on more than a handful of players over the duration of the World Cup this summer. Yesterday they turned their attention to a player that they already know a fair bit about, as Xherdan Shaqiri took to the pitch for Switzerland against Brazil in both nations opening group game, with the Stoke man a well-documented Liverpool target.

The fans haven’t been looking at Stoke’s Shaqiri to come to Anfield as a first-team player. The Swiss international, who’s amassed an astonishing 71 caps at the age of just 26, would be a squad player for the Reds. However, the 26-year-old could still make a big impression on Merseyside, with the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino around him, there’s no telling what the unpredictable winger could do.

Shaqiri already has a number of accolades to his name. The young Swiss international began his career at his boyhood club, Basel, before moving to Bayern Munich where he won an incredible treble in the 2012/13 season. From there, he moved on to Inter Milan for a season before again moving, this time to Stoke City in the Premier League. The winger’s time at the Britannia is set to come to an end now though, as the Potters were relegated and will be unable to afford the maverick winger’s wages without Premier League money.

Whilst The Reds in the Tavern want to see a big money forward signed, to bring in Shaqiri on the cheap would be a superb move as they can have guaranteed quality from the bench and readily available rotation.
