Both clubs have struggled in individual areas so far this season, and one role that will certainly be getting improved across Merseyside this summer is the goalkeeping position.
For Liverpool, the duo of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have seriously struggled, whilst Everton shot-stopper Joel Robles is unlikely to be the main man between the sticks for the long-haul at Goodison Park, despite his good performances.
It would make sense, then, for both clubs to begin their scouting operations ahead of a potential summer move – and that is seemingly exactly what they’ve done.
According to the live news sheet of the Sunderland Echo on the 7th of March, both Liverpool and Everton are targeting Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford – who has spent much of this season on the shelf through injury.
Despite his lack of experience, Pickford was a breakout star for Sunderland earlier in the season – with the goalkeeper a regular under David Moyes when he has been available.
Whilst neither club has seemingly made a bit, the interest appears there – and it is easy to see why. At points this season, Pickford has saved the Black Cats, and if they are relegated at the end of the season, you would certainly expect him to move on.
