Liverpool have been one of the most active and talked-about clubs in Europe this summer, after completing some incredible business.
The Premier League champions have secured the signings of Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and, of course, Florian Wirtz.
However, it is not just their incomings that signal a new chapter at Anfield, the club has also waved goodbye to several long-standing players.
Luis Díaz, Jarell Quansah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Tyler Morton, Nat Phillips and Caoimhin Kelleher have all moved away from Merseyside, while Darwin Nunez is expected to join Al-Hilal soon.
Following the tragic loss of Diogo Jota and the departures of Nunez and Diaz this summer, there is a clear need to add depth to Liverpool’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
Liverpool have been in relentless pursuit of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, but difficulties in negotiating with the Magpies over their striker have forced the Reds to look elsewhere.
Earlier this week, reports emerged that Liverpool were interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain ace Bradley Barcola.
French outlet L’Équipe claimed that the Merseyside giants were ready to act on their long-standing interest in Barcola should their attempts to sign Isak fall short.
However, Mirror Sport this morning poured cold water on a potential move, claiming that Liverpool accept PSG have no interest in selling their winger, once hailed “world-class” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.
PSG’s reluctance to sell, combined with Liverpool’s ambitions to give youth prospect Rio Ngumoha a clear run at making the role his own, means any deal for Barcola is now highly unlikely this summer.
What’s the latest on Alexander Isak to Liverpool?

Not much has changed since Newcastle rejected Liverpool’s eye-watering £110m bid for the Swedish sensation.
After spending much of pre-season with his former club Real Sociedad, Isak returned to Newcastle’s training ground this week, but has been exiled to train independently and will not feature in their annual Sela Cup fixtures.
Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano provided an update yesterday from Liverpool’s perspective:
“Liverpool maintain their focus on Alexander Isak for the final weeks of the summer window.”
“New proposal ready to be submitted if Newcastle open the door to the move. Isak maintains his position; he doesn’t want to play or stay at Newcastle – he wants to leave and join #LFC.”
It will be fascinating to see if Liverpool go all in and meet Newcastle’s reported £150m valuation, the minimum they are said to require for a deal.
Either way, the closing weeks of the transfer window promise to be eventful for Liverpool fans, with more twists and turns likely before Deadline Day on September 1st.
