The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have had a tear or two in their eye as they wax poetic about Steven Gerrard, who of course announced his retirement yesterday.
An Anfield legend, the former England midfielder has been the topic of conversation for some time now as the Merseyside drinkers look back on his glittering career with the Kop titans.
As sad as it is to see him bid farewell, the drinkers propping up the bar have been handed something to shout about from the Daily Telegraph.
They’ve claimed the 36-year-old is closing in on a return to his boyhood charges and will reportedly look to join Jurgen Klopp’s backroom staff at the club.
A role working within the club’s youth system is believed to be in line as he continues his UEFA ‘A’ licence with the help of the staff currently working under the charismatic German.
The ex-Borussia Dortmund coach is said to be willing to work with Gerrard, though it’s thought he will spend more time with the likes of Alex Inglethorpe and mentor Steve Heighway as he makes his first steps into coaching.
As you can well imagine, the Liverpool fans in the Tavern are dancing in delight over his potential return, hoping he will one day have a Pep Guardiola-like influence at Anfield.
