Liverpool fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern are revelling in the news from Inside Futbol, that the Reds have made initial contact with Inter Milan for midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
Kovacic, 20, is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in European football, and it is no surprise to see Manchester United and Liverpool fight for his signature.
The publication suggests that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is prepared to meet Inter’s €30m asking price, and conclude a deal in the summer.
This would be a huge blow for Manchester United, who have also been in the race to sign the Serie A starlet in the summer.
The Croatian midfielder has been an ever-present figure in Roberto Mancini’s Inter Milan side this campaign, and a number of impressive displays have seen him become one of the most sought after youngsters in the Serie A.
