An angry Birmingham City punter wandered into the Transfer Tavern today muttering curse words, with the news that teenager prodigy Demarai Gray could be snapped-up by Liverpool for a cut-price fee in January.
The Mirror are reporting that the 19-year-old could leave for just £3.5m in the new year, as a contract signed over the summer sees his release-clause drop to just £3m at the end of the season.
It’s a complete contrast on the face of our Birmingham regular, who was delighted in the summer as Gray penned a new deal; with the Championship side rejecting several offers in excess of £5m from newly-promoted Premier League outfit Bournemouth.
Losing the talented teen for just £3m next summer would be a huge blow to the promotion hopefuls but they can’t expect a much larger figure in the new year, as clubs will be aware of the situation.
Whoever made the decision to reject £5m for Gray and then sign him to a new deal that allows a £3m exit a year later needs to confront the angry punters in the smoking section!
Would this be a good signing and a bargain for Liverpool fans? Let us know below!
