These Liverpool have found themselves agreeing with the views of Gary Lineker after he appreciated Jurgen Klopp standing up to his critics.
Lineker, who used to play for the likes of Barcelona and Everton, stuck up for the German tactician after coming under some scrutiny following his controversial decision to let U23s boss Neil Critchley take charge of the FA Cup fourth-round replay. This followed a letter which he received from the Premier League at the end of last season, demanding that club’s respect the winter break.
The Stuttgart-born coach promised his players some time off after what has been an intense campaign, and Klopp intends to honour it by playing the younger players at Anfield against Shrewsbury. Lineker believed that replays were “daft” and says that lower league teams should have more say when it comes to revenue and gate receipts to compensate. Supporters agreed with his views and made their feelings clear on social media.
