Liverpool fans have found themselves in agreement with Jamie O’Hara after he suggested that Roberto Firmino’s goal during the Reds’ 2-0 win over Manchester United should have stood.
Speaking the morning after the affair, the former Spurs midfielder stated that Virgil van Dijk should not have been penalised for going up for a header with the Red Devils’ goalkeeper David de Gea, shortly before Firmino unleashed a curling effort beyond the reach of the Spanish shot-stopper. The Dutch defender and Mohamed Salah scored the goals required to send their side 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

O’Hara told TalkSPORT that Van Dijk went up fairly and De Gea was simply not strong enough. He suggested that if the goal came from a cross and that it was a goal-line scramble, referee Craig Pawson and VAR would have allowed the goal to stand. Supporters were in agreement with the ex-Premier League player and made their feelings clear on social media.

Keepers get far too much protection, they get the advantage by use their hands so shouldn’t also get protected when a player is jumping with them. Van Dijk didn’t impede de Gea from catching the ball, he was just stronger.
