Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been banned from playing football until June after the FA charged him with a breach of betting rules. The 30-year-old recently left Trabzonspor through mutual consent, but now will not be able to join another club until the summer and many Reds fans can’t believe what has happened.
The breach of betting case was originally opened against Sturridge last year ahead of his loan move from Liverpool to West Brom. The forward faced a six-week ban and an initial fine of £75,000 which has now doubled to £150,000 (via BBC Sport).
Sturridge – who played 160 games for the Merseyside giants and won the Champions League with them last season – has admitted he is ‘devastated’ following the verdict and will now have to wait until June 17 before he can find himself a new club.
As a result, these Liverpool fans are bewildered by the news, with most calling him ‘stupid’ and many making fun of the situation.
