Liverpool: Fans criticise Herbie Kane following Carabao Cup defeat to Aston Villa

Liverpool fans slammed the performance of Herbie Kane following his side’s 5-0 defeat against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Tuesday.

The Reds fielded a young and inexperienced side after the decision was taken by the EFL to play the domestic cup tie in Birmingham, the day before Jurgen Klopp’s side were scheduled to play in the Club World Cup in Qatar.

As a result, the Merseyside bowed out of the League Cup and were heavily beaten by an older and far more experienced outfit in the Villans.

Kane, who made 49 appearances for Doncaster Rovers on loan last season, was criticised by fans due to his poor passing and his finishing.

He missed two big opportunities during the match and lost possession on 13 different occasions, which disrupted the rhythm of Neil Critchley’s young Reds.

Supporters were critical of Kane’s performance and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that he plays as if he is “driving a wind-up car”, while another suggested that he should be released in January.
