Liverpool: Fans criticise John Achterberg after noticing key trait from Simon Mignolet

Liverpool fans have been reacting to England’s Nations League match against Belgium and some of them noticed one aspect of the game which led to criticism for The Reds’ goalkeeping coach John Achterberg.

Simon Mignolet featured in between the sticks for the Red Devils and looked remarkably composed with the ball at his feet, which wasn’t the case during his time on Merseyside.

The 32-year-old kept 66 clean sheets from 204 appearances for Liverpool before losing his place in the side to the likes of Loris Karius and Alisson Becker, as per TransferMarkt.

Despite praise from both Jurgen Klopp over the years, segments of the Kop faithful were convinced that Mignolet’s downfall was down to Achterberg’s guidance, or lack of, a point which was reignited by The Anfield Talk.

This narrative continued after watching Mignolet play at Wembley last night, with supporters once again pointing out how unhappy they were with Achterberg’s grip on the Belgian keeper.
