Liverpool: Fans did not like Michael Owen’s claims about Steven Gerrard

Former Liverpool player and current club ambassador Michael Owen has claimed that the Reds were trying to get rid of ex-captain Steven Gerrard two years before he left for Los Angeles Galaxy in 2015.

Sky Sports reported extracts from Owen’s new autobiography Reboot, in which he alleged that the Anfield club had wanted Gerrard out a couple of years before his move to the United States.

In his new book, Owen wrote that his former Liverpool team-mate had become “bigger than the club” and “become so symbolic and so powerful” that he was forced out of Anfield, with Owen doubting whether Gerrard truly wanted to move to LA Galaxy, as reported by Sky Sports.

Owen scored 158 goals in 297 games for the Reds before leaving for Real Madrid in 2004 and later played for Manchester United, while Gerrard had a 17-year career in Liverpool’s first team and captained them to Champions League glory the season after his former team-mate left for Spain.
