Many Liverpool fans have slammed pundit Matthew Upson after he admitted he wanted the Reds to lose to Shrewsbury so that manager Jurgen Klopp could “pay a price”.
The German tactician took the decision to rest his entire first-team squad and allow U23s coach Neil Critchley to manage his young side in the FA Cup, which earned them progress into the fifth round of the domestic cup competition. Still, Anfield was packed to the rafters as the Kop faithful saw the youngsters beat the League One side 1-0, with the likes of Curtis Jones, Neco Williams and Harvey Elliott making the starting line-up.
Upson told Sky Sports that he thought it would have been good to see if the club “pay the price” for it and suggested that it would not have been a bad thing for the FA Cup, emphasising that giant-killings are what the make the tournament what it is. Supporters mocked Upson and made their feelings clear towards him on social media. One fan called him a “plumb” following his bizarre remarks.

Upson was not a very good football player and equally not a very good pundit! Is this the message we want to send to our young players? Really
