Liverpool: Plenty of fans fuming at Martin Atkinson for “embarrassing” decision vs Brighton

Liverpool supporters aren’t the biggest fans of Martin Atkinson this season, with him involved in a number of decisions that have gone against the Reds. He was the man in the middle when Manchester United’s goal at Old Trafford was allowed to stand and he was in the VAR room for the Roberto Firmino offside decision against Aston Villa.

Over the weekend he was at the centre of another contentious decision when Lewis Dunk took his free-kick quickly and scored to make the game 2-1. Adrian looked like he was trying to organise his wall at the time, and there did appear to be a Brighton player in that wall, which of course is against the new laws of the game.

Liverpool fans were pleased with another three points, but they took to Twitter after the game to show just how disgusted they were with Atkinson, with some questioning his integrity.

Martin Atkinson is a joke, by the way. Not that Liverpool played well or can complain, on balance, but he as good as handed Brighton that goal. A horrendous referee.
