Liverpool: Fans furiously react to trademark rumours

It is rare to see a football club attempt to trademark something as big as the name of a city, but that’s exactly what Liverpool FC are planning to do.

Business Live report that Liverpool FC have submitted an application to the Intellectual Property Office to trademark the name of the city in a move that will protect the club and supporters from “inauthentic products”, with the club stressing that this move is  “only in the context of football products and services”, and will ensure revenue from goods using the word in relation to the Anfield club is channelled back to it.

Of course, Liverpool fans were far from pleased with this news and took to social media to vent their frustrations, with supporter group Spirit of Shankly leading the online protest. Here is what some fans had to say…
