Liverpool have announced that Curtis Jones will wear the No.17 jersey as of next season.
The Merseyside local has outgrown his familiar No.48 and will instead be handed Steven Gerrard’s old shirt number, prior to adopting the famous No.8.

As is tradition with academy graduates, Jones will wear a more senior number as he will no doubt play a bigger role in Liverpool’s 2020/21 campaign. The 19-year-old has seriously impressed this season and his service has already paid off with this huge gesture.
He has tallied 17 goals for the club across different age groups this season, including one goal in the Premier League and two in the FA Cup (via Transfermarkt).
Many Reds have flocked to the announcement to congratulate the teen, with a few making some tongue-in-cheek jokes. One supporter has said Jones has a ‘big responsibility’ on his hands to fill the shirt once also worn by Ragnar Klavan. The Estonian played for just two seasons in red before searching for pastures new.

Another fan has high hopes for the youngster and has tweeted there’s ‘greatness incoming’.
