Liverpool made it through to the round of 16 in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, beating League One outfit MK Dons 2-0 away from home.
It was a fairly routine victory for the Reds, who enjoyed 78% of possession and 19 shots on goal despite Jurgen Klopp making 11 changes to his starting line-up.
Indeed, experienced players who have been out of the team such as James Milner, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dejan Lovren were all handed starts. Furthermore, the German also named four teenagers in the team and gave 20-year-old goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher his debut.
The Irishman looked assured in his first game between the sticks for the Reds and made two smart saves to deny Dons striker Jordan Bowery on his way to a clean sheet.
Klopp was quick to praise his young shot-stopper after the game, saying: “Kelleher, to be honest, these games are there so the boys show how good they are. For a goalie, it’s quite difficult in a game like this but then being there having not a lot to do over the whole game and then having these kind of saves, that’s absolutely brilliant, so I’m happy about that as well.” (Via Independent.ie)
The Reds manager was not the only one praising the Irish under-21 international either. After the game, Liverpool’s official Twitter account posted a clip of one of his impressive saves from the match, and several fans replied with their thoughts on his performance.
