Loads of Liverpool fans reacted to the show that Atletico Madrid supporters put on before their 1-0 defeat at the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday.
It is usually the Kop faithful that are the ones known for generating an atmosphere on the big European nights under the lights. However, they discovered that the roles were reversed at the venue where they lifted their sixth European crown in June. For Jurgen Klopp and his team, they found themselves at the wrong side of the scoreline after Saul Niguez’s fourth-minute goal and were unable to get a shot on target.
The supporters could be heard chanting “Atleti” as they lined the streets armed with flares and a wall of noise to greet the team coach as it arrived at the stadium. This took the Reds’ fans by surprise and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan described the scenes as “absolutely amazing”.
