Liverpool: Fans loved Jurgen Klopp’s blunt reaction to Atletico Madrid defeat

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sent a warning to Atletico Madrid that Anfield will be as intimidating as the Wanda Metropolitano after his side’s 1-0 defeat in the Champions League last-16 first leg.

Saul Niguez’s fourth-minute strike was enough to give Tuesday’s hosts the advantage in the tie against the reigning European champions. The Reds failed to register a single shot on target as they were frustrated with Madrid’s time-wasting tactics and an ear-splitting atmosphere inside the stadium.

The German tactician sent a simple message to the opposition which resounded well with the Kop faithful. “Atletico fans who can a get ticket… ‘welcome to Anfield’,” said Klopp (quoted by BBC Sport). They face a stern test in the second leg after they were unable to break down Diego Simeone’s organised and resilient Atletico side.

Despite this, supporters were encouraged with Klopp’s comments and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that the “cavalry awaits them”, referring to the crowd on European nights on Merseyside.
