Liverpool: Fans mixed on Jason McAteer comparing the Reds’ midfielders to Paul Pogba

Liverpool fans have been reacting to former Reds midfielder Jason McAteer and the recent comments that he made about Manchester United star Paul Pogba.

The reason that the Kop faithful took interest in his quotes was that he referred to James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana and discussed the influences that each player has, in comparison to the Red Devils’ star. Pogba has played just twice in the Premier League since September and underwent surgery on his ankle at the start of last month. Despite this, he received criticism in the wake of United’s 2-0 defeat to Burnley at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Jason McAteer: “I don’t get why Manchester United got Paul Pogba. He just upsets the dressing room, has the wrong influence on the younger players. You need the likes of Milner, Henderson and Lallana in your dressing room, not Paul Pogba.”

McAteer told BeIN Sports (cited by the Express) that he didn’t get Manchester United, stating that he has too much of an influence on the young players and upsets the dressing room. His comments deeply divided opinion among supporters, who made their feelings clear on social media, where there was plenty of controversy over the verdict.

I’m getting tired of the Pogba agenda, he didn’t even play. I agree with @MCATEER4 concerning leadership. There’s a reason Liverpool tied down Milner and Henderson with Klopp trying to convince Lallana to extend his contract.

Liverpool hv leaders in abundance.

Said it before, Ferguson didn’t sell him for £100,000 for no reason. Horrible influence, & definitely a major contributing factor to the downfall.
A disruptive influence, arrogance has rubbed off of young players.

He’s not wrong, Pogba was literally the laziest player in the league when he wasn’t injured.

As for the racism shouts even though he’s injured, he’s obviously going to get mentioned as hes 1) Their “star player” and 2) BROKE THE WORLD RECORD TRANSFER FEE! pic.twitter.com/SYtfOd9hJQ

This would be the equivalent of us saying that Naby Keita has a bad influence on the squad. Makes no sense. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I’d swap Lallana for Pogba tomorrow. Pogba isn’t Man Utd’s biggest problem. If you need a scapegoat you should be looking at the manager and the people or persons who have hired and fired the last 3 managers.
