The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments from Everton manager, Sam Allardyce that were made after the Merseyside Derby on Saturday. The former England manager claimed that if the two Merseyside derbies that he’d been in charge for were a Champions League tie then Everton would’ve gone through, leading to a number of hilarious responses from the Reds.
Sam Allardyce: “If my 2 league games against Liverpool this season had been a Champions League tie, we’d have gone through. That’s something my critics won’t tell you.”

To say the Merseyside derby was a let down is a bit of an understatement. A game that has become famed for its fiery temperament and great goals failed to produce a goal or a card in the entire 90 minutes. Dominic Solanke went close for Liverpool, drawing a smart reaction save out of Jordan Pickford whilst Yannick Bolasie’s curling effort called Loris Karius into action with a diving fingertip stop.
Other than a few quality saves, and some last minute goalmouth action, the derby was an utter letdown for all of watching at home. Although it’s understandable given Liverpool rested a significant number of players with their Champions League quarter-final second leg tie at The Etihad on their mind. Liverpool go into the game tonight with a three-goal cushion having seen off Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at a rocking Anfield last Wednesday. The game is sure to be a classic, much more so than the recent Merseyside derby.

You can not put Everton and the Champions League in the same sentence. The only time Everton finished 4th in the PL they couldn't even make it to the group stages of the CL.
