Liverpool fans on Twitter love looking back at Skrtel’s time at Anfield

During his Anfield days, Martin Skrtel was something of a cult hero. The Slovakian defender spent eight and a half seasons on Merseyside and scored plenty of goals, at both ends, during his time at the club. The 33-year-old will be remembered for his aggressive style and his ability to score big goals when needed.

Skrtel’s obviously no mug. To rack up over 100 caps for your country is always an impressive feat and that’s exactly what the Slovakian did, pulling on the shirt 102 times in the career that saw him play for AS Trencin, Zenit, Liverpool and now Fenerbahce. It looks like his career is starting to wind down, as he’s currently 33-years-old and plies his trade in the Turkish Super Lig, as he has since leaving Anfield in summer 2016.

When the Slovakian defender retires, a lot of Liverpool fans wouldn’t be against seeing him return to the club in some capacity, although Skrtel doesn’t exactly strike you like the coaching type. In his days as a Kopite, Skrtel found himself racking up an incredible 320 appearances, scoring 18 goals and winning the League Cup, the last trophy that The Reds actually won. With a bit of luck, the wait for another trophy won’t be too long and it could come after Skrtel returns to the club where he’s most remembered for playing.
