Liverpool were poor in their recent 2-1 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain with central defender Virgil van Dijk just one player to have had a stinker on the night.
It was the Dutchman’s uncharacteristic touch that presented Juan Bernat with the shot that put PSG 1-0 up, and Liverpool were simply unable to recover after that.
It is a mistake, however, that van Dijk will not dwell on for too long with a massive Merseyside derby against Everton now awaiting in a season where the 27-year-old has performed exceptionally well.
At the back, £54m-rated (via Transfermarkt) van Dijk has given Liverpool the sort of defensive stability they have lacked for so long, something which could prove to be massive in the title race.
Van Dijk has since been nominated for the PFA Player of the Month award for November alongside the likes of Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Manchester City’s midfield maestro David Silva.
