The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are loving life today, as they’ve found out not only that Mohamed Salah will be fit for the World Cup in Russia, but that Manchester City’s Leroy Sane will be missing out on the tournament after failing to make Germany’s 23 man squad, something that the Kopites have put down to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance against the winger in the Champions League.
Instead of Leroy Sane, Joachim Low has opted to take Marco Reus, Julian Draxler and Julian Brandt to fill in on the left-hand side of the German attack. Whilst this decision has been criticised by fans everywhere, the fact that Sane failed to help Manchester City advance far in Europe could be the reason as to why the 22-year-old has missed out, despite his majestic domestic form in the Premier League.
This is a possibility, but then when you compare the record of Sane to those picked above him, the decision is criminal. Sane managed 25 goals and assists in 32 league appearances in the 2017/18 season, whilst Reus, Brandt and Draxler only managed five more, with 30 goals and assists in the league between them, despite the fact they played 75 league games between them this season.
