Whilst The Reds weren’t in action this weekend due to the international break, it didn’t mean they were taking a break themselves. No, instead they’ve been keeping up with some of their international Kopites, and when their club tweeted a link to the Liverpool website with an international round-up, they were left stunned by Shaqiri’s performance from last night.

Shaqiri’s Switzerland faced a tough test in their final UEFA Nations League match as they hosted Belgium knowing that a win over the World Cup’s bronze medalists would see them qualify for the semi-finals of the competition being staged in Portugal next June. It started rocky for them and they were 2-0 down to an early Thorgan Hazard brace, however, Shaqiri inspired a Swiss comeback, grabbing two assists on his way to a 5-2 win in Lucerne.
In truth, there won’t be many, if any, Liverpool fans who will be surprised to see how well Shaqiri shone for his country, especially after seeing him in action at Anfield over the last few months. The ex-Stoke City man is playing arguably the best football of his career and whether it’s for his club or his country, the Reds are just delighted to see him shine like he did last night in such a big game for his country, next up for the midfielder, though, will be to shine on the weekend against Watford.
