Liverpool: Fans plead for Timo Werner to be signed after hitting 25-goal Bundesliga mark

A number of Liverpool fans were vociferous in calling for Timo Werner to be signed after the RB Leipzig striker found the target again last night.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a possible move to Anfield (BT Sport, via Daily Express) and he scored his 25th Bundesliga goal of the season on Monday in his team’s 4-2 win away to Koln, taking his tally to 31 in all competitions for the current campaign.

As noted by This Is Anfield, Werner’s strike capped a scintillating counterattack as his pace enabled him to leave the opposition defence for dead as he latched onto goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi’s measured delivery before bearing down on goal and slotting it past Timo Horn to put RB Leipzig 3-1 ahead.

One Liverpool fan on Twitter said that the Germany striker reminded them of “prime Torres”, a reference to ex-Reds attacker Fernando Torres, who was also renowned for his pace and racked up 81 goals in 142 games at Anfield.

These Kopites took to social media to implore sporting director Michael Edwards to stop at nothing to entice Werner to Liverpool this summer amid continuing speculation over his future:
