Liverpool: Fans plead with Anfield club to replace Joel Matip

Many Liverpool fans once again appealed to the club to sell defender Joel Matip after he was ruled out for three weeks.

Speaking after the Reds’ 0-0 draw against Newcastle United before the New Year, manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed (via Paul Joyce) that the Cameroonian centre-back will miss the next couple of games after picking up an adductor injury.

The 29-year-old has missed a total of 60 games since his free transfer from Bundesliga side Schalke and has picked up six different fitness setbacks, not including his latest one (TransferMarkt).

This leaves his boss with no established centre-backs available for selection, having not replaced Dejan Lovren in the summer, who left Anfield to join Zenit St Petersburg.

While Fabinho is flourishing at centre-back, it is a really troublesome predicament for the champions to find themselves in.

As a result, supporters ran out of patience with Matip and urged the club to sign a defender this month.
