Despite taking an unexpected tumble out of the Champions League, Liverpool fans are praising the players who seemingly worked their socks off on Wednesday night under the Anfield lights. Sadio Mané is one of them.
The Senegalese winger is one of the best playmakers in the Premier League at the moment, boasting 14 goals and six assists so far (via BBC Sport).
Liverpool went into their clash with Atletico Madrid with a 1-0 deficit, and despite ultimately losing the tie, Mané helped claw the Reds back into the game.
The 27-year-old played the full 120 minutes of regular and extra time and didn’t stop battling for a moment. Mané won the most duels out of anyone else on the pitch with a stellar 15 – that’s more than Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez managed combined (via Sofascore).
The wide-man was also the most fouled player of the whole game, being hacked down a total of five times as Atletico struggled to cope with his pace and footwork (via FotMob).
Fans were impressed with Mané’s performance against Atletico’s tight-knit defence. One supporter has said he had a ‘world class first half’ while others are describing him as ‘immense’ and ‘just amazing’.
