Liverpool: Fans praise Virgil van Dijk performance against Sheffield United

Liverpool continued their fine start to the 2019/20 Premier League season on Saturday with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Sheffield United.

The Reds were far from their imperious best at Bramall Lane, but came away with the three points when Blades goalkeeper Dean Henderson failed to stop Georginio Wijnaldum’s strike from going in.

It means that Liverpool now sit five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, winning all seven of their fixtures so far.

Unsurprisingly, Virgil van Dijk caught the eye with his performance in South Yorkshire as he helped his team keep only a second clean sheet of the season in the league.

The Dutch centre-half was an absolute colossus once again for Jurgen Klopp’s side. In the 90 minutes he won 11 aerial duels, made eight clearances and one interception and blocked one shot, whilst also playing 12 accurate long balls and one key pass (via WhoScored).

The former Southampton and Celtic man is now arguably the best central defender in world football, with the 28-year-old claiming the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year accolade at the end of August.
