Liverpool: Fans question Joe Gomez starting at right-back against Bournemouth

Liverpool fans questioned the decision from Jurgen Klopp to start Joe Gomez against Bournemouth in their Premier League clash.

The 22-year-old started on the right-hand side of the Reds’ defence on the South Coast before Dejan Lovren’s first-half injury forced a change from Jurgen Klopp, shifting Gomez back into the middle.

With his preferred position being at the heart of the backline, Gomez also has the ability to play as a fullback on both sides, making his debut back in 2015 playing left-back under former manager Brendan Rodgers.

Despite this, his development has seen him prosper in the centre back role, illustrating his comfort playing alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Gomez came on as a second-half substitute against Everton during their 5-2 victory in the Merseyside derby and had only played the full 90 minutes of a match in the league this season against Norwich City.

Supporters were not impressed with the decision from the boss to start with Gomez out wide and made their feelings clear about it on social media.
