A number of Liverpool fans reacted angrily to a fresh update regarding the club’s transfer pursuit of Timo Werner.
The Telegraph reported that the Reds are willing to wait another 12 months for the RB Leipzig striker’s current £53m release clause to decrease to £36m, but they could come to rue any such inactivity as Chelsea are reportedly ready to make an offer for the 24-year-old now. The update was shared on Twitter by @LFCTransferRoom.
Liverpool and Chelsea may be willing to allow Werner’s current release clause to expire because it drops to £36m in 12 months and the German club have virtually admitted defeat over the prospect of keeping the 24-year-old. [@TeleFootball]

The Germany international has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield and has hinted at a desire to move to the Reds (as per The Athletic), with many Kopites begging for him to be signed after he struck his 31st goal of the season on Monday night against Koln. However, with the coronavirus pandemic likely to reduce clubs’ spending power and Liverpool taking a very conservative approach in the transfer market over the past 12 months, the Anfield club might not be ready to splurge just yet.

Between that lack of spending and Werner’s excellent goal return, though, many Reds fans are desperate to see him signed and some expressed their frustration at the club’s reported willingness to wait for his release clause to drop. One Kopite even called for Harry Wilson, the on-loan forward who has played just once for Liverpool’s first team, to be sold in order to raise funds for the RB Leipzig ace.

Reckon Edwards is going to try negotiate and agree a deal with the amount being between £36M – £53M, maybe about £44M. I'd rather he do that and get a deal agreed than agree a deal for the year after or wait another 12 months. https://t.co/BzMxCOFTBK

Why? 50M is already cheap for such a player and with all the Liverpool players leaving this summer I’m sure we can afford it

Even though the club has lost money due to the pandemic etc, surely we can still afford to buy someone for 50million 😂
