Liverpool defender Andy Robertson warned Atletico Madrid that full celebration during his side’s 1-0 defeat to the La Liga outfit could be premature.
The Reds failed to register a shot on target at the Wanda Metropolitano as Saul Niguez’s fourth-minute goal was enough to give the hosts the early advantage in the Champions League last-16 first leg. Despite Jurgen Klopp’s side dominating in possession, the lack of quality in the final third was ultimately their downfall as the hosts shutout the reigning European champions.
The 25-year-old told BT Sport (via the Daily Mail) that Atletico celebrated as if they won the tie following the full-time whistle, and reminded them that they are coming back to Anfield where the Kop faithful will be ready and waiting. As a result, supporters were pleased to hear Robertson’s comments and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan responded by saying that the Scotsman was the only man that played well following the defeat.

Atletico wont know what hit them at Anfield. They got very lucky with a scrappy goal today and defended a big pitch well. Very difficult to do the same at Anfield.

The problem with that kind of football is it only really lends itself to cup games. In a league you get found out hence why they’re in 5th place. Boring, anti-football relying on cheating, diving, trying to get opposing players sent off and general time wasting. Not for me thanks

Just as it was when Barca came last
